In Australia a group of scientists have made an astonishing discovery. They have found that only one atom is needed to produce a shadow. They used electricity, to keep the atom in one position, and a state of the art microscope, that made the shadow visible. Here is a quote from one of the scientists working on the project; "We have reached the extreme limit of microscopy; you can not see anything smaller than an atom using visible light," Professor Dave Kielpinski of Griffith University's Centre for Quantum Dynamics in Brisbane, Australia said. According to the scientists if they where to change the frequency of the light they where shining on the atom, by one part in a billion, the shadow would no longer be seen. I think this kind of discovery can affect our understanding of atoms as well as, influence and help develop quantum computing. In case you don't know, quantum computing is a kind of way of simulating the atom which let's scientists work out the properties, physical and chemical properties of an atom. I think these kind of developments are amazing and crucial to human being; I find it mind boggling how many different new things are discovered everyday. All I can say is, keep up the good work, humans!
