Would you pay to block your own internet connection?

"We are social beings – we want to interact with others – so tools that allow us to be constantly social appeal to core parts of our humanness"A man called Fred Stutzman has just invented two new application for you computer. You quite literally have to pay for an application that disables your internet. The idea behind it is to block out the internet to prevent us from being distracted by the "rich media". "Freedom" is the application that completely disables your internet, whereas "Anti-Social" only block selected social networks. So far "Freedom" has had over 300,000 hits, and "Anti Social as had 125,000 hits. He even goes as far as to say that he believes that there will be Café's in the UK that take pride in not having a WIFI Network. As he said, "We are social beings – we want to interact with others – so tools that allow us to be constantly social, appeal to core parts of our humanness" meaning that it would be very hard to not just tell yourself that you will only look at Facebook for a minute, and then you end up spending half and hour. I find this idea very interesting, but I don't think it will be one I will use, I would rather have freedom to do whatever I want than use "Freedom" to restrict myself. How about you?

  2. When I first heard the name of your article, I got very interested. I think it's a good idea, because this always happens to me (I just wanna go online for five minutes and I end up looking around for nearly an hour...). I would only use the first one, because it would be stupid if your whole internet would be blocked. I like the idea of being able to block certain sites so you don't even get tempted to look on them, but I wouldn't take the second option, because sometimes I just need to look something up very quickly and if I don't want internet, I turn it off :)
