Doctor trials laser treatment to change eye colour

Close-up of human eyeDr Gregg Homer claims 20 seconds of laser light can remove the pigment in brown eyes so they gradually turn blue. He now needs up to a million dollars to continue his project. The only flaw with this amazing idea is that if too much light is allowed into the pupil it can cause sight problems if too much light is allowed to enter the pupil. Stroma Medical, the company set up to advertise the surgery, estimates it will take at least 18 months to finish the safety tests. The process involves a computerised scanning system that takes a picture of the iris and works out which areas to treat. The laser is then fired, using a the eye's pattern, hitting one spot of the iris at a time. When it has hit every spot it then starts again, repeating the process several times.
I find this information very interesting that firstly doctors can change your eye colour just by using a laser for twenty seconds. I think this is an amazing leap from contact lenses. And colouring droplets. To think that they can actually kill the pigment to make them blue is amazing. I obviously don't need this operation though because my eyes are already blue. I can't imagine what kind of amazing technology we will have in another 20 years.

  1. Oh my gosh... What scientists find is so amazing! I could never imagine someone that I am used to see him or her with brown eyes the next day to come and talk to me with blue ones. Great job but I didn't understand: Can it be done also in eyes of other color or only brown?

  3. This is very cool, I agree, but this is also a little bit scary too. Imagine the doctors are using a laser to simply change someone's eye color and then they miss the iris. I'm not sure that I would like to have a laser by my eye. Who are they testing this on I wonder? animals or humans?
