Recently NASA has discovered a tenth planet to our solar system. This planet is named 2003UB313 but is usually known as planet X. Literally planet 10 because Xis the Roman numeral for ten. It is slightly larger than Pluto. Planet X is 97 further times further away from the Sun than Earth and is the planet farthest away from the Sun in our solar system. Brown explains how they can estimate planet X's size, "Scientists are able to estimate the size of a solar system object by its brightness, just as one can infer the size of a faraway light bulb if one knows its wattage". I think this is a very interesting discovery and I bet there will be many more like it in the near future. I think this is a very important step towards finding a new planet for the human race to settle on, once we have depleted Earth's resources.

That's so interesting. Imagine they find the 11th planet! And 3629 page views!
ReplyDeleteHi Alfie,
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your article, I am wondering now. How did they find this planet now and nobody knew about it before? What did they use to find it? What is the planet X like? Is it really a planet or just like pluto, a dwarf planet?
